AHSA provided an exhibitor's booth and a presentation emphasizing the importance of nutrition and movement in a child's early years at the 5th Annual 2011 Children's Obesity Conference. The conference was hosted by the Worthy Institute, a private provider of services to Arizona's at-risk and under-served populations and a valued AHSA partner. Nearly 120 participants convened to discuss current trends, share resources and strategies, and learn about evidence-based programs. Attendees walked away with the skills to establish community coalitions, develop programs, obtain funding, access research data, build program sustainability, and acquire skills for outcome evaluation. AHSA also attended the 2011 Coordinated School Health Conference, a collaborative effort between the Arizona Department of Education and the Arizona Department of Health Services. The AHSA exhibit table enabled Head Start leaders to connect with K-12 health professionals and advocate for the importance of the formative early childhood years.
